Haor Alliance Workshop held

  • Haor Alliance workshop has been organised in Kishoreganj on 25th June in conjunction with Campaign for Sustainable Rural Livelihood, CSRL.  NGOs of Haor region, CBO representatives, Local Elected Body members, are the members of Haor Alliance while POPI is playing leading role in the alliance. The workshop was organised by REECALL project.

    The workshop aimed to achieve following objectives:

    •  Further strengthening of the alliance  
    • Developing a joint advocacy plan.

    Opening session was moderated by Mr. Nazim Ahmed, Assist director, IDEA to capture concurrent issues through depicting people's sufferings at the haor. Mr. Zillur Rahman, UP member - Chatirchar said, farmers are suffering from the crisis of seeds and fertilizer at Chhatirchar. He also added labor crisis during harvesting period.  Mr. Moniruzzaman, Project Coordinator of PBK raised the issue of providing flood tolerant variety for the people of Mithamoin Upazela. Civil Society Leader Prince Rafik Khan emphasized on active role playing of Government officials specially Agricultural Department at Haor region. Khodista Begum Jonaki, Executive member of  CSRL invited everyone for close relation and connection with CSRL regarding information sharing and advocacy issues with the objective to strengthen the Haor Alliance.

    After fruitful discussions the workshop ended with following outputs:

    • A steering committee formed
    • Functional networking between CSRL and Haor Alliance started.
    • An action plan developed for the Haor Alliance for the year 2015-2016.

    In the concluding part,  Mr. Shahabuddin, Manager-PART thanked everyone on behalf of POPI.
